How Screen Polishing Improves Cosmetic Grade
Screen scratches are among the most visible things a buyer or marketplace checks when it assigns a cosmetic grade to a used phone. Removing them by screen polishing can move a device up on the reseller’s own grading, but every buyer sets its own standard, so no polish can promise a specific grade.
Why screen scratches drag down a grade
Resellers, wholesalers and marketplaces sort used phones into cosmetic grades. The grade sets where a device can be sold and what it can sell for.
The screen is the first thing a grader looks at and the first thing an end buyer sees. A phone that works perfectly can still land in a lower grade only because of marks on the glass.
There is no single grading standard. Each buyer and each marketplace defines its own grades, and what one calls a light scratch another may call a heavy one. Grading is done by you or by the marketplace you sell on, not by the company that polishes the device.
How polishing can move a device up
Screen polishing removes scratches from the front glass, deep ones included. When scratches on the screen were what held a device’s grade down, taking them out can move it up on your own grading.
Mobility Traders LLC polishes devices in volume for businesses that resell them, from Houston, Texas, on a ship-in basis for customers across the United States. The method leaves no waves, the screen stays normal, and the original display stays on the device; nothing is swapped. A screen protector can still be applied afterwards. The details are on our wholesale cell phone polishing page.
Polishing works on the front glass screen only. Whether a device moves up also depends on everything else your grading looks at, such as the back, the frame and how the device works. Scuffs on the back or the frame are not part of screen polishing.
Which scratches are worth sending
The devices that gain the most are the ones where the screen is the main thing holding the grade down. Look for:
- Deep scratches that show with the screen off or under a light. Deep scratch removal is part of the service.
- Clusters of light scratches that make the screen look hazy when it is tilted.
- Otherwise clean devices whose back and frame already meet a higher grade on your standard.
- Scratched aluminum and SE Apple Watches, where the display is the main cosmetic surface. See Apple Watch screen polishing.
A device held down by something other than the screen may gain less from polishing alone. That call is yours, against your own grading.
What to sort out first
Some devices need a different service, or none, before polishing makes sense:
- Cracked or chipped-through glass → front glass replacement (re-glass), not polishing. Polishing removes scratches; it does not repair cracks. Our guide on polishing vs replacing phone glass covers the split.
- Display faults such as dead pixels, burn-in or lines → neither glass service fixes these.
- Inner folding screens on Galaxy Fold and Pixel Fold devices → not part of the service; only the outer glass screen is polished.
- Apple Watch models with sapphire crystal → not polished.
Sorting these out before you ship keeps each lot clean and keeps your service counts accurate. The minimum is 50 devices per service.
How grading before work protects you
At Mobility Traders, every device is graded against the service you ordered before any work starts. This check is about whether the device can be serviced, not a cosmetic grade for resale.
- A device that will not pass is not processed and is not charged.
- Devices that pass are serviced, PhoneCheck tested and go through a double quality check.
- The lot ships back with a per-device manifest, so you can match each unit against your own grading when it returns.
That means you pay for the devices that go through the service, and you know what was done to each one before you regrade it.
If you want to see how polished devices land on your own standard before committing a full high-volume lot, a sample order of 10 devices is free. Full orders run on a 7-day average turnaround, with rush available on request. You can start through our B2B polishing service page.
Questions
Does polishing guarantee a specific cosmetic grade?
No. Every buyer and marketplace uses its own grading standard, and the grading is done by you or the marketplace. Polishing removes screen scratches, which can move a device up on your own grading.
Does screen polishing help with scuffs on the back or frame?
No. Screen polishing works on the front glass screen only. Marks on the back or the frame are not part of the service.
How can I check results against my own grading before sending a full lot?
Send a sample order of 10 devices, which is free. Grade the polished devices on your own standard when they come back, then decide on a full order of 50 devices or more per service.
